Job Summary

Employees will be scheduled to perform a variety of jobs within the company based upon customer requirements and/or production schedules which includes clerical and office positions. Machinist will machine parts to specifications.

Job Responsibilities

  • Measures workpiece with instruments such as calipers, pocket rules, tape measure, height and depth gauges, gage blocks, dial indicators, threat wires and micrometers
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls or control media as required
  • Provides prompt and efficient service to customers by following procedures and work instructions
  • Selects proper blade, cuts, and welds band saw blades
  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, and others to resolve machining or assembly problems
  • Sets up and operates conventional, special-purpose, and numerical control machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts, and fits and assembles machined parts into complete units
  • Suggests improvements in work methods and procedures by following policy
  • Troubleshoots work-related problems by using problem solving techniques
  • Operates lathe controls, sets up tooling, turns workpiece between centers and places in 3 or 4 jaw check, mandrel and collets
  • Performs bench work as required
  • Prepares lathe for operator by aligning centers, determining cutting variables, grinds turning and facing tools
  • Sharpens drills with appropriate equipment
  • Taps holes by hand
  • Tram a mill head and align attachments and workpiece to head
  • Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part of product to be fabricated
  • Performs minor machine maintenance, such as cleaning, oiling, and greasing
  • Files and polishes workpiece
  • Grinds workpiece square on surface grinder
  • Inspects, mounts, and dresses grinding wheel
  • Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance
  • Cuts/chases external, internal, ASE, Acme, and metric threads
  • Identifies types of metals, related materials, and properties that affect their machinability
  • Understands the basic heat treatment process
  • Interprets meaning of standard drafting symbols
  • Cuts materials to length with band saw
  • Grinds workpiece between centers using cylindrical grinding and/or tool post grinders for lathe
  • Knurls parts
  • Operates welding equipment to cut or weld parts
  • Recognizes major cutting tool variables
  • Tests workpiece for hardness without hardness tester
  • Ability to run lathes, mills, grinders, drill press, and CNC machines
  • Protecting themselves and their co-workers by adhering to all company safety & health policies
  • Participating in safety program activities
  • Identifying hazards in the workplace and reporting them to their supervisors
  • Exhibit exemplary attendance
  • Comply with company policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or GED or
Experience: 1 to 3 months of experience and/or training or
Other: An equivalent combination of education and experience


Physical Demands

Regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. Employee is frequently required to walk and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crawl, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 10 lbs frequently lift up to 25lbs and occasionally lift and move up to 100 lbs.
